My parents are both Democrats and I grew up leaning to the left. The older I got the more liberal I became. Nothing like hitting puberty in the era of Reaganomics (sorry but trickle down economics was bullshit and nothing ever trickled down, it only stayed at the top). Since I first registered to vote in 1986, I registered as "Decline to State", that's Independent in California. I've always had a deep distrust in both parties and it grows everyday. Let's face it both parties are deeply rooted in the corporate purse and like it or not, we have become a Facist country (corporate control of the government, sorry but that is what has happened). The once so called "liberal" media is really nothing more than a few giant spin corporations controlling almost every aspect of mainstream media. Everyday I read word for the word in my local newspaper the same exact article I read the night before on one of the major news network websites. And now back to Obama.
I've always had my doubts and unfortunately they were confirmed with his vote on the FISA Act. Not one of my friends was even aware of the FISA Act or how Obama voted on it. But at least he voted unlike McCain who can't even seem to show up and vote for anything these days. Don't we elect these guys to do a job and vote on the issues that will effect us? Instead they get into office and spend the next two years running an election campaign and missing a majority of the votes. It should be mandatory for every politician to cast a vote, not to abstain or miss out entirely. Do your job and represent us! And now back to Obama.
Once I explained the FISA Act and how Obama voted, my friends became as disappointed as I was when I first heard about his vote. And I then informed them that they have a choice and it's not just red or blue, Coke or Pepsi. Every election there are usually several third party candidates on the ballot. But because the corporate media doesn't want you to vote for someone they can't control, they ignore them entirely or scapegoat them like Nader in 2000 (remember Nader and Pat Buchanan were barred from participating in the debates because they supposedly would have no outcome or effect on the election. Plus Gore was a big pussy and should have demanded an entire recount of the state of Florida).
But don't I throw my vote away if I vote for someone that isn't Blue or Red?
Bullshit! That's what they want you to believe. Most people are so turned off by the system and their choices that they don't even bother to vote. Turnout of registered voters rarely exceeds 50% and usually it is much lower. That means over half the people that could vote don't. If a large percentage of the people that don't bother to vote actually turned up to vote for a third party candidate, we would see real "change" and there might actually be some "hope". But for now those words are part of some Pepsi feel good campaign.
You are throwing your vote away if you don't vote for the candidate that you truly believe in. I heard a quote once, I'm not sure who said it but I will leave you with it. "If all we ever vote for is the lesser of two evils, than evil is all we will ever have". Think about it.
